BUSINESS SOFTWARE SOLUTIONS
Implementation Services Methodology
Implementation and training are crucial considerations. Achieving a return on the
investment of software as well as accessing and applying the functionality is
directly related to the quality and completeness of the implementation, training
and long term support to follow. Custom Information Services (CIS) has a very
well defined and proven methodology for assuring that you realize the maximum
potential from your investment in these packages.
The first step in ensuring a good implementation is in the sales and product
evalution process. Once the project is approved and the software is
purchased our sales team prepares a hand off packet for our consulting manager.
Typically our consulting manager is involved in the sales process and
demonstration.
CIS’s standard implementation methodology employs the following major phases and
can be modified to fit your company's budget and expectations.
Project Planning
In this phase, the primary goal is to create a tentative but detailed plan
for the system design phase. To accomplish this goal and create an environment
conducive to success for the remaining project phases, the following key steps
are required:
- The initial implementation planning meeting is held in which we define a
tentative timetable and anticipated responsibility assignment.
- A detailed procedure walkthrough and system architecture review is performed to
identify critical issues on both application and system levels.
- A refined timetable, task list and a detailed budget estimate are prepared.
- Project team sign-off on a key issues document is required to move to the next
phase.
System Design
In this phase, preliminary system design decisions are made based upon the
initial project plan created in the preceding phase. This phase generally
includes the following key steps:
- Set up of test system, including installation of software application and
standard test data.
- Provide detailed training for the project team. These instructor led sessions
include hands on training in a classroom environment tailored to assist in
analyzing all key processing areas for your specific company as well as learning
the new system.
- Define and document all customization and data conversion requirements.
Implementation
In this phase, the detailed plan from the system design phase is carried out.
Throughout the process, the status of each key element of the plan is monitored
for progress as well as for any changes to the plan that may arise. The key
elements of this phase are as follows:
- Perform test data conversions and create the necessary procedures and programmed
routines to enable a rapid final conversion process.
- Complete and install customizations, if any.
- Complete previously defined test plans to prove the system functions as
required.
- Perform readiness review
- Perform end user training
- Create final punch list Adjust calendar
- Perform system cut-over
- Reconvert final data as desired
- Perform final testing of converted data as desired Install programs on live
system
- Onsite assistance during “go live”
Post Implementation
This phase is primarily a review of the go-live process and resolution of any
issues that were discovered since the final revision of the system design plan
was made.
While the high level stages described above are accurate, the numbers of actual
tasks involved is quite large and vary from one implementation to the next.
Keep in mind that CIS will provide our customers with any level of assistance is
desired.

I have been extremely pleased with CIS from the very beginning of our ERP project. CIS’s staff is very knowledgeable and contentious of our needs. They were unlike many companies that are just looking to sell you a product and walk away. CIS took the time to understand our business needs and worked with us to find a solution. They worked with us from the design stage through post installation configurations. Microsoft’s GP product seemed to be a good fit for our company. I look forward to a long working relationship with CIS.
